Is Zulassung24 a government authority?
No. Zulassung24 is a private online service. As a registered bulk customer of the Federal Motor Transport Authority, we submit your application to the responsible registration office. The office makes the decision.
Do I need the online ID function?
No. You confirm your identity by photo ID and electronic signature right in your browser. You need neither an eID PIN nor a card reader.
How long does online registration take?
Entering the details usually takes 10 to 15 minutes. Many applications are decided automatically within minutes; some are checked manually by the registration office, which can take a few working days.
What does registration cost?
New registration, transfer and re-registration cost €134.90, change of address €84.90, deregistration €49.90. The basic official fee is included. Only a custom plate costs an extra official €12.80.
Where do I get the security codes?
The codes are printed on your documents under covered fields: 12 characters on registration certificate part II, 7 characters on part I. For deregistration, the 3-character codes of the plate stickers are added.
When may I drive?
After the registration office's positive decision. You receive the stickers for your plates by post. Until then, the rules stated in the decision apply.
Do I have to upload documents?
No. You type in the details shown on your documents. Uploads are only needed in special cases, which the form will point out.
Do I also get licence plates?
Yes, on request we emboss your plates to DIN 74069 and send them to you: two plates for €29.90, one plate for €19.90.
Can I use a custom plate?
Yes. Reserve your custom plate via our sister site Wunschkennzeichen24 and enter it in the form. The official fee is €12.80.
What happens to my documents when I change my address?
The registration office issues a new registration certificate part I and sends it by post. Your plate number usually stays the same, even when moving to another district.
Which payment methods are available?

What if the office rejects the application?
